For the first assignment in my Communication
Research Methods 4450 class, I had to tell what my topic would be for the
research (capstone) project. I decided
that the media’s influence on female body image would be a good topic. As I worked my way through the class I
realized that lots of research had already been done on the topic.
In talking with Professor Young about
the topic, he suggested that I change my topic to reflect something that I am
currently involved with. Right now I am
working as a disc jockey at a radio station.
A recent communication issue in the broadcasting arena is that of “vocal
fry.” This topic is of interest to
me. I want to learn more about it, find
out why people are making such a big issue over it, and try to figure out why
it seems to be directed particularly at female broadcasters. I believe that it will require quantitative
research methods and be a cultural study.
